How to have an Affordable, Adorable, Sustainable, Winnie the Pooh Birthday Party!

THE CUTEST WINNIE THE POOH BIRTHDAY PARTY EVER
We try to keep our kids birthday parties minimal and affordable. My husband has to reign me in sometimes though. Normally we do a late morning or early afternoon family party. But this time it only worked to do a dinner time party. I felt a little ‘permission’ to go a little Pintrest Mom, but make it things we already have or already buy.

THE CAKE
I have been making all of my kids birthday cakes since my own mom ‘retired’ from the job. I’ve come a long way from the first few cakes. they were…well, yeah. I will have a more in depth post on this cake but for now just know you can make your kids cakes, It’s way more affordable, especially if you have any dietary restrictions. It takes a few to get in the swing of it but you can totally do it. I do use an extra deep cake pan,linked here, to get a really tall bakery style cake. I also prefer a more cake than frosting ratio and this definitely helps with that. So I use an entire cake mix in each pan, and the bake time is closer to an hour each. You definitely need to bake a couple days ahead if you do this.

THE PRESENTS
I take present wrapping seriously. And I’m minimal in my paper approach. Black, brown, and sometimes another option to mix in for Christmas. I used one of my extra Christmas ones here too. Presents are a way to bring your theme in, without it being theme specific wrapping paper. I got a pack of “tabletop decor” from Amazon for $15. Sturdy cardboard cut outs, double sided, with stands if you need them. One was our cake topper, and I used some as present decor, and then as obvious party decor too.

I NAMED THE FOOD
I haven’t named food for a birthday in many, many years. And boy was it fun! And there was no Etsy shop purchases, no fancy tags, we used…construction paper. Construction paper labels for the food, and for the name tags. My sister created them for me, honestly if she wasn’t here it probably wouldn’t have happened. Be inspired.

HOW I KEPT IT AFFORDABLE
A $15 pack of tabletop decor and $17 on balloons from our local grocery store were the only decor costs. We used cloth napkins I’ve had for years, and our own plates, cups and silverware. No disposables were used at all. The serving dishes were all things I had already, and the food was food we already purchase, except for the Hippeas and the Honey Nut Cheerios. And then the name tags were made from construction paper and sharpies, both of which we already had. It’s absolutely possible to have a Winnie the Pooh Birthday Party on a very low budget, that is “pintrest worthy” using things you already have.
