Diapers and Diaper pails don’t actually go together
I have never owned one of the ‘diaper pails’ that the baby industry markets to new parents. I find them clunky, ineffective, and absolutely unnecessary. We have used dog poop bags for years to bag poopy diapers and toss them into the garbage can. The cans have varied over the years depending on how our home is set up. This go round with baby #6 we just have a small open can in our room next to the dresser/changing table. It gets taken out 2-3 times a week and no our house doesn’t smell. Despite someone on Instagram telling me it probably does and we are just used to it. Spoiler, it doesn’t.
It’s all in the marketing
The dog poop bags are very similar to the bags marketed in the baby industry to parents for on the go diapers and messes. BUT dog poop bags are far cheaper than the baby ones. AND they definitely keep the smell contained better. You can often even find dog poop bags in large quantities on clearance at places like Home Goods or Marshalls or TJ Maxx.
Get some dog poop bags, ditch the complicated diaper pail that doesn’t keep the smell away anyway, and tell all of your new and seasoned mom friends!
