SO YOU WANT TO HIT SNOOZE A FEW MORE TIMES AND STILL EAT BREAKFAST? I’VE GOT YOU!
You want your kids to be able to get a breakfast that’s not toaster strudel, or sugary cereal all by themselves?? I’ve got you too! It’s a tale as old as time. All the people say, prep on the weekends, or on your day off so you have breakfast ready to go. But it feels COMPLICATED. It’s not. Let’s break down the grab and go breakfast in a jar!
THE CONTAINERS
I have found that these wide mouth half pint mason jars, with these plastic lids are the best way to prep for on the go, or ‘the kids can get it themselves’ breakfast. With the right containers it already feels easier. These jars are incredibly sturdy and resilient, I’ve dropped them, my kids have dropped them, we haven’t had any break. Caveat, we have LVP, if you have tile or concrete I cannot speak to those. But in general these are a kid friendly non plastic option.
THE EASIEST. AND THE CHEAPEST.
Yogurt, I like to control the sugar content of breakfast in my house, so I buy tubs of Greek Yogurt and we add in our own flavorings. Usually a dollop of strawberry jelly or honey. To make it ‘on the go’ friendly and cheaper than buying individual yogurts I pre portion them into the jars and the kids can grab them and I don’t have to worry about messes and wasted yogurt. And if someone is on the run they can grab one and take it with for a side with lunch or dinner at work. It’s a win win win.

EGG AND SAUSAGE MINI MUFFINS
Silicone mini muffin tins are the secret here. I was a holdout and had metal mini muffin tins until about a year ago. We finally switched after the final batch of stuck muffins. I could not do it anymore and at 8 pm ordered an emergency Walmart express delivery and then they didn’t bring the muffin tins. A full meltdown almost happened, for real. Thankfully Walmart is amazing and about half an hour later I had my muffin tins.
So, anyway, it’s super easy. You mix up 8 or so eggs, make a pound of sausage if you want sausage, scoop the seasoned, cooked, eggs into the muffin tin, add the cooked sausage and whatever else you want in them, and bake for like 8-10 minutes. It’s literally a non recipe. Portion them out into jars and stick in the fridge, and grab and go in the morning, or pack them for your kids lunch.

EGGS AND SAUSAGE IN A JAR
It’s as easy as it sounds. You cook the eggs, scrambled, and cook the sausage, and put them in a jar, add cheese or whatever else you want and grab and go in the mornings or your kids can be independent and grab one and warm it up and make themselves some toast. Teaching kids independence in the kitchen is magical!

MINI PANCAKES
Use a tablespoon measuring spoon to dollop pancake mix onto your griddle. Use a cookie flipper to flip them, and throw them in jars. You can warm them up in the jar, add syrup and boom breakfast. Pair them with a jar of eggs and sausage and your coworkers and mom friends will be jealous of your ingenuity. We have multiple people in our home that are GF/DF, the best pancake mix I’ve found is the WALMART brand one. It’s like $3 and they come out fluffy and delicious every time. I do add vanilla and cinnamon to all of our pancakes, but I’ve made these without and they still taste amazing.

THE OG – OVERNIGHT OATS
This was the original breakfast in a jar. I used to make it in pint jars, and it was hard to maneuver the spoon into the depths of the jar to get every last bite. So I went looking and found these wide mouth half pint jars and we love them. They are the perfect size for overnight oats. Our recipe below.
1/3 Cup Oats – we use certified GF quick oats – but anything other than steel cut will work!
1/2 Cup milk of choice – we use certified GF Oat Milk for our GF/DF kids
Dollop of peanut butter
Dollop of honey
Sprinkle of chia seeds
Dash of salt
Sprinkle of mini chocolate chips
Mix and stick in the fridge, for at least 8 hours before serving
Serve cold or warm

We’ve figured it out. It’s not hard. Pick one and start there,
